Choosing a Snuffle Mat for Your Dog

Compare the design with the way your dog explores and plays.

Look at the searching areas

Compare the pockets, fabric folds and openings in the exact design. A large overall footprint does not tell you how many usable searching areas it has. Clear overhead and detail photographs make the layout easier to understand.

Match size with play style

Consider your dog’s size, nose shape and usual play habits. Check actual dimensions and construction rather than choosing only by a breed photograph. A snuffle mat is an activity item, not a replacement for a suitable chew toy.

Start with supervision

Stay with your dog when introducing a new mat. Follow the maker’s instructions for food placement, setup and session length. Remove the mat if your dog begins tearing or swallowing pieces. An activity that suits one dog may not suit another.

Know the cleaning method

Food can collect between layers and pockets. Check whether the particular mat can be hand washed or machine washed, and how it should be dried. Do not apply a blanket washable claim to every fabric design.

For product-specific dimensions, materials and instructions, use the exact listing and the manufacturer’s documentation. Contact SniffNook with a question.
